I’ve received the go-ahead to begin construction. A couple of changes:
Since we all expect to be at Bayboro, NC, the last weekend in March 2024 for the full-scale test launch of UVA Rocketry‘s IREC rocket Sabre II, Ben suggested I do my flight there to remove the constraint of the 7000ft ceiling at BattlePark. That lets me get rid of the drag skirt.
I’ve managed to secure an M1315W for the flight. OpenRocket predicts apogee at just under 9000ft and max velocity of Mach 0.97.
Also at Ben’s suggestion, I’ve scaled back the size of the fins. The latest OpenRocket file is at https://www.kq9p.us/wp-content/uploads/L3-ORCUS-6in-25Nov2024.zip.
Test flights are still planned for BattlePark in January/February 2024.
